Types of Infertility Procedures
Many people who experience infertility have medical conditions that can be treated with medication, surgery or assisted reproductive technology (ART). Most infertility treatment involves a combination of methods. You can improve your chance of pregnancy with lifestyle changes like improving the timing and frequency of sexual activity. You might need a minor surgical procedure to open blocked fallopian tubes or to remove fibroids that interfere with ovulation. You may also need medications to encourage ovulation or to treat other health problems.
Some couples choose to use donated eggs or sperm. This can be an option if one partner has a genetic disorder that could cause health problems in a baby. It’s also a choice for people who have had cancer and need to delay childbearing until their treatments are finished.
For women who have polycystic ovary syndrome or other conditions that interfere with ovulation, doctors can use an ultrasound-guided procedure called egg retrieval. Medications and a local anesthetic are used so you don’t feel pain. A thin needle is inserted into each ovary through the vagina. Then, a small device connected to the needle opens each sac (follicle) and suctions out the eggs, one at a time. The eggs are then fertilized with sperm in a lab. The fertilized embryos are then implanted in the uterus three to five days later.
Some men with infertility problems have low numbers of sperm in the semen, and a surgical procedure called a scrotal sonocentesis is used to collect sperm from the ejaculum. The sperm can then be used in IVF or other fertility treatments. A scrotal ultrasound is also used to check for conditions such as varicoceles that might interfere with sperm production.
For some women who have a condition that prevents ovulation, a surgical procedure called a laparoscopy might be needed to check for blockages or scarring in the fallopian tubes or uterus. It might also be used to remove growths such as adenomyosis and endometriosis. A scrotal ultrasound can identify varicoceles and other testicular problems.서울아이앤여성의원
